B&M® purification columns are packaged with fiberglass membranes, a technology based on the rapid extraction of nucleic acids by glass fiber extraction. The columns can be used to purify single- or double-stranded DNA or RNA in the presence of impurities such as salts, solvents, enzymes, or proteins. Nucleic acids are adsorbed on the glass fiber at a high concentration of salt, salt and impurities are removed at the washing stage; Pure DNA/RNA is washed off the membrane with water or TE buffer.

B&M's® nucleic acid purification columns are based on the classic silica gel membrane technology. Under conditions of high salt content and low pH, nucleic acids are adsorbed on the silica gel membrane, while impurities such as polysaccharides and proteins are not adsorbed. Further rinsing removes the remnants of impurities. Finally, pure nucleic acids are produced by elution with a slightly saline solution or pure water.
