Needle filters are disposable membrane-type devices used to remove solid impurities from liquid and gaseous samples prior to analysis by methods such as HPLC, ion chromatography, gas chromatography, ICP, and dissolution tests. Proper sample filtration improves the quality and consistency of analysis results and reduces instrument downtime. For fast and effective filtration, disposable needle filters are usually used. The choice depends on the specific application. Sterile needle filters can be used to sterilize or clarify sterile solutions, while non-sterile needle filters are used for general filtration and sample cleaning. Needle filters are classified according to two main characteristics: membrane and housing. Both characteristics must be adapted to the application conditions and the filtrate.

Needle filter membranes are selected according to the material, filter diameter and pore size, while needle filter housings are selected according to the final application in terms of material and style.

Stainless steel needle filters developed by BM Life Sciences are reusable needle holders designed for ultra-pure and sterile filtration in a volume of about 100 ml. The top end is easily installed above the bottom end using the included illumination tool. The filter supports either forward or reverse filtering.

Application Approach

Needle filters are made of different membrane materials, and different materials are used for different purposes, the membrane suitable for sample filtration should be selected according to the experimental needs, the needle filter is connected to the syringe, and it must be tightened carefully to ensure good sealing, the needle filter is divided into two types: sterile and non-sterile, and the sterile type of needle filters must be pre-treated Before use, and the filtration system should be rinsed with water after the installation of the filter is completed, and the filter can work after clean flushing. After washing, you can start filtering. Before inhaling the sample, it is necessary to suck about 1 mL of air into the syringe to minimize residual liquid, The operation should be performed according to the steps to ensure the efficiency of recovery, first the sample should be inhaled into the syringe, the syringe should be inverted and all residues on the tip should be cleaned clearly, then the sample should be filtered and injected into the tube after injection into the syringe, and finally the filter should be removed and the air should be inhaled into the syringe, The filter head must be reconnected and all residues must be ejected. Finally, remove the filter, draw air into the syringe, reconnect the filter nozzle and push out any sample residue.
